God's desire is for us to know that we are loved by Him.
One thing I have learnt through this past year is that, more than anything, God desires to have a love relationship with us, with me. He desires for me to know that I am loved by Him. And yes, through this love relationship with Him and by becoming aware of His amazing love towards me, I will experience Him and His gifts. But, above anything else, our Father’s desire is for us to know and experience His love…
Where is Our Focus?
When we hear the awesome news of being set free from all the painful, dramatic and horrible things that can happen in this life we get excited and we want it. We desire it. And for most of us we then pursue it. But in it all some of us get lost. We start focusing on the gift instead of the Giver. We focus on what we can get, instead of placing our focus on the One who gives.
I myself have just recently experienced this…
We all have desires. We all have dreams. Deep down most of us know what we want. Well, as a strong believer in Christ and woman ‘of authority’ I knew what I wanted and I was going to make sure I get it – my baby.
Earlier in the year I shared with you how I desired to have another baby, but the time was not yet right. Long story short, I ended up conceiving after I finally rested in Christ. But, looking back at it now, I was like a little child crying and demanding to have a sweetie even though it was not good for me or time for it as of yet. And when I finally got what I wanted I became so focused on my gift rather than my Daddy who gave it to me. I became selfish. It was all about me and what I wanted.
Now do not misunderstand me, having a baby is a good thing. This gift of conception is amazing, but what was not amazing was my attitude towards it. It was a desire, and even a Godly desire at that (why would it not be?!), but my focus was in the wrong place. My focus was on the gift instead of the Giver.
And so, as a result of having my focus off of God, I experienced difficulty during the first part of my pregnancy and really all throughout. This was because I was totally self-focused and self-centered and as a result my life was not love and my thoughts were not love (how can it be when you are focused on yourself and on the flesh? It is only by Him that we can be love and be lovely.).
And so today I want to ask you, dear woman of God…
Are you desiring the gifts more than the Giver?
I am just starting to get back on the right track, but while I am, I want to share this with you:
Knowing the love God has towards you is infinitely greater than experiencing (or trying to experience) something from Him, apart from Him. In fact it is impossible. I want to encourage you to go to Him today and let Him show and tell you how much He loves you. Let Him love on you. Become quiet at His feet and soak in His love, and see how His love and your love relationship with Him produce all the things and even more than what you desire.
His love is infinitely greater than any experience we can have on this earth. And YES! it is indeed experiencing His love here on this earth that leads to these other great experiences that He has laid out for us in Christ, but let it come from a place of rest, a place of love.
Let Him love on you today.
Rest in His love.
May your love relationship with our Lord lead you into His Abundant Life.
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” – John 17:3 KJV
